I started the day getting this link from my friend Pat from kottke.org. Blogging is not dead. I loved this quote: “…I refuse to let social media take everything… When I log into Facebook, I see Facebook. When I visit your blog, I see you.” I’ve often wanted to blog about this article from The New Yorker about the the personal essay boom being over. If personal essays are dead or not, I’m still going to write them.
Looking at my day today, I realized that I’m not going to have a lot of time to sit down and write, not even at the end of the day. I’m busy today, which is a luxury. I’m busy with things that I choose to do but I’m busy nonetheless. I can’t write after work because I have a happy hour with co-workers and I won’t get home until after midnight because I have two improv shows. I’ll probably write what I can on my phone as the night goes on.
Morning – 3:00PM
The day started in the usual way. I got to work at 9:30 for the morning stand up meeting. I coded, went to therapy (that just happened to be today), got lunch, then coded some more. The above image is of me at the Manhattan Mall Starbucks stand (with my reusable Starbucks cup, by the way). Have I told you that I work in a mall? I do. I don’t work at a Spencer Gifts or anything. My office just happens to be located in the same building as a mall. I get to walk through JC Penney from the subway, though, so, that’s cool.
5:30PM
I’m currently waiting to join my co-workers for a drink but I need to wait on some work.
(The Magnet has lots of shows advertised in the bathroom.)
9:45PM
I was stuck at work trying to figure out google tag manager and I haven’t had a moment to write anything. I made the tail end of my happy hour. I went from Herald Square over to 8th ave for two slices of Pizza Suprema that I shoveled into my mouth on my way to 29th St. to the Magnet to perform in The Blob. As I type this I’m waiting for my second show, Object Work.
Just checked my phone. The Mets are losing 6-1. The Caps are up, though. I should text my girlfriend.
(Backstage.)
11:20 PM
Heading to the subway to go home. Checked my phone again. The Mets lost 12-4 to the Braves. The Caps won 4-1. Object Work was great. Heading home on the Q.
12:30 AM
Home. I FaceTimed with my girlfriend. “What are you going to write about?” This, I told her.
This is what a busy day is for me. Nothing life or death, just work and shows. Tomorrow I have more work to do. I have a show after work in Williamsburg.
I’ve gotta say, it ain’t that bad.
