My name is Rob Penty. I’m a writer, storyteller, and improviser. I grew up in Rochester, went to college in Ithaca, lived in Manhattan for one year, and Brooklyn ever since, making me a lifelong New Yorker (if you mean the state). I studied chemical engineering and have been a web developer for over fifteen years to pay the bills. As a comedian, I performed stand up all over New York for several years (a few times sharing the stage with comics like Dave Attell and Jim Gaffigan). I’ve been performing improv for over ten years and, though I went through the UCB program, the Magnet Theater is where I really learned to improvise.
After having given up stand-up, I decided to take a storytelling class with Adam Wade about three years ago. I rediscovered what drew me to stand-up without the burden of having to structure everything into a joke. I’ve performed regularly all over New York ever since. My writing is informed by my storytelling but I write about anything that interests me.
I write because I like to create. I hope you enjoy what you find here. Thank you for visiting my blog with the precious and unnecessarily long name.
