As I’ve said before, the mark of my adulthood is thinking that the lyrics to Radiohead’s “Fitter, Happier” aren’t an indictment of modern life but a pretty decent set of instructions to live.
So, today. Got up. Meditated. Packed a blazer and prop glasses in my bag for a show later in the day. Took my gym stuff. Walked through the freezing rain to the subway to get to work. Got coffee and a blueberry yogurt pot from Pret. Made my morning stand up meeting with time to spare. Worked on some emails. Worked on some banners. Went to Hale and Hearty for lobster bisque because it’s Lent and I can’t have meat on Fridays. Not drinking for Lent still going strong. I’ve done it before and it’s far easier than giving up coffee. Did this week’s timesheets. Thought about possible blog posts for today, came up with nothing. Went over to The Magnet to run through a couple of bits in that I was doing in a sketch show. Learned my lines, ran through the sketches. Ate almonds and a Snickers for dinner. Performed in the show. (Used my blazer and prop glasses.) Headed to the gym to run three miles because that half marathon in May ain’t gonna run itself. The gym was practically empty. Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was playing on one of the TVs. I used the treadmill and the treadmill isn’t the same as running but there’s a Nor’easter outside. Then I went to meet someone to see The Shape of Water because someone and I are trying to watch at many Oscar movies as we can, also I like someone. The Shape of Water was amazing by the way. Richard Jenkins, Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Michael Stuhlbarg, how could you go wrong? I had low expectations for it which set the stage to be really moved.
Today was the kind of day where I didn’t even have time to write on my phone like yesterday. I like it when I fit a lot into a day. Usually I’ll let myself skip something (the gym) and probably take a nap. Now it’s way past midnight and I’m sticking to the spirit of the “write every day” rule – as long as I do it before I sleep, I’m good.
