One of the commentators on Fox said after that game that it will be remembered for Loris Karius’s two mistakes that led to goals and not for Gareth Bale’s insane goal after coming on as a substitute.
Well, speaking of remembering, I don’t remember that dumbass’s name, so, I’m not listening to his dumbass opinion.
Yes, Liverpool’s goalkeeper Loris Karius had a rough game but I don’t blame him for that first goal. I don’t really blame anybody. I don’t think I know anyone who if they were playing a pick up game would have counted that goal. Yes, it technically counts. Yes, Karius should have known better. But also? Yes, Benzema should have gotten the hell out of the way after a change in possession and let the goal keeper play it out to his team.
It was a crap goal and one that should have been appropriately (calmly) celebrated, final or not.
Karius completely misplayed that third goal and he has no one but himself to blame for that.
But let’s not concern ourselves with such things. I just want to record my awe at Gareth Bale’s bicycle kick. That was arguably the best goal I’ve ever seen. Well, it was one of the best goals I’ve ever seen in real time, as I was watching the live game.
The other contenders would be Wayne Rooney’s bicycle against Manchester City a few years back and Victor Wanyama’s goal against Liverpool this season. But Bale’s goal was amazing.
Watching Luka Modric and Gareth Bale win a Champions League final isn’t the best experience for a Spurs fan (as they are both ex-Spurs players) but Real Madrid is the bigger club. Talented players move on to bigger clubs. It happens.
But right before Bale left, he had a season where he would just decide to score and he would. He would put games away for us. We needed a goal and he would score it. Watching him today was like a reminder of that season.
And I hate Real Madrid. I wanted Liverpool to win (and I thought Salah having to leave the game still leaves the question of who deserved to win today up in the air). But when Bale scored that goal I basically made my peace with whatever the outcome of the game would be. If Real would go on to win, so be it. It was that good a goal.
I’m still pissed that Real won. Watching the team that’s supposed to win win is always annoying. But Salah will be back, Klopp will continue to build a great team and… what the hell am I saying? The game’s over. I’m back to not caring about Liverpool.
See you all in June for the World Cup.
