I just got back from Ant-Man and the Wasp. It was entertaining. A few things:
- The Marvel Movie Universe is getting almost too big. I’m having a hard time keeping up. I think this movie referenced at least two other Marvel movies.
- Michael Pena is incredibly funny. They could make an entire movie just out of Luis’s stories.
- Stan Lee’s cameo is pretty great in this one.
- They never explained Evangeline Lily’s hairstyle change from the bob to long and straight. I guess it’s just to show that time has passed.
What else have I got to talk about today?
I went to therapy and it was good. I like therapy. I’m better to my friends when I’m in therapy because I don’t unload a bunch of crap on them. Well, less crap.
Two weeks ago my therapist loaned me The Happiness Hypothesis. It talks about, well, happiness but by taking philosophical beliefs and questioning them with psychological studies. Here’s the big takeaway: Jonathan Haidt’s metaphor for our brains is like a human riding an elephant. The human is our conscious awareness, the elephant is our unconscious mind. You know how you wanted to change a habit and you couldn’t and you felt like a failure? Well, that’s kind of like a human riding an elephant. You can try to steer it and even get pretty good at it but the fact is the elephant is going to do what the elephant is going to do. Also, your genetic predisposition determines a lot. Also, when you’ve confirmed your own preconceived ideas, you stop thinking and investigating, which explains my cursory explanation of this book.
It also mentions twin studies and nature versus nurture a bit. (Check out Three Identical Strangers.)
I’ll be honest, people, with work and therapy and meeting my girlfriend for a movie, I’ve had a full day. All I’ve got is enough for a little over 250 words. If you read this one, thanks.
