Slacker

I suppose it’s a good thing that when I don’t post for two days a friend checks in to see that everything is okay.

I got a text from my friend Josh.

“Everything alright? No posts for two days…”

“Haha, yeah, man, I’m fine, I was in Virginia with Christina.”

“Slacker.”

That’s a fair point. I am a bit of a slacker. I said that I was going to kick my posting into high gear but I’ve missed quite a few days in December. But have you ever just not done something that you’re supposed to do? I spent my entire youth dreading that. To not do my homework or study for a test would have been the end of the world. But as an adult? It was pretty awesome.

I have this week off because my manager noticed that I didn’t take that many vacation days this year so he offered me this week off just for the hell of it and who am I to say no? So, like I said, I was in Virginia with my girlfriend, in her hometown just hanging out and doing some Christmas stuff. We went into DC and went to a Christmas market (just like the ones in Union Square and Grand Central). We saw the tree by the White House. We went to dinner in old town Alexandria.*

* All of these activities came after we watched Tottenham Hotspur versus Barcelona in the Champions League in an Irish pub in Chinatown that happens to be the Spurs supporters bar in DC – an activity that I owe my girlfriend for big time.

We watched Christmas movies: Scrooged, It’s a Wonderful Life, and Mixed Nuts (perhaps lesser known but worth a watch). We made Christmas cookies and, in the words of Kevin McCallister, “you know, just hung around.”

It was marvelous.

So, yeah, I had a fun trip and kind of didn’t want to pay any attention to any daily obligation at all. So, I slacked. But now I’m back in New York and staring down the barrel of half a month left of writing in 2018. Hell, half of month left of 2018. How did that happen?
