I’m on an Amtrak heading down to DC, spending a weekend with my girlfriend in her hometown. The WIFI on the train actually works. I’ve come to expect it not to work. Megabus shouldn’t even claim it has WIFI it works so badly.
I’m reading The Shining and I may be reading this wrong but I think that I’ve discovered a disturbing detail that Wendy (Shelly Duvall in the movie) slept with her father. Does anyone remember that part from the book? I’m pretty sure they left that out of the movie.
I ordered my Spurs jersey for the 2018/2019 season today. Opening day of the Premier League is August 11th. That’s in two weeks. My soccer obsession continues after a summer of the World Cup. The casual fans will fall away and I can get back to some real disappointment. Spurs will be in the Champions League and they’ll be competing with a re-vamped Liverpool and the usual threats from the Manchester teams and Chelsea. I’m expecting Arsenal to falter this year under their new manager. (Mid-season manager changes provide a bump because usually the team is losing and they need some new energy. A changing of the guard like they’re experiencing usually needs some time for adjustment.)
This train is moving slowly I’m not sure why because I’m listening to my Spotify playlist which has included Aphex Twin (“Pulsewidth”), The Stone Roses (“I Am The Resurrection”), and currently Stereo MC’s (“Connected” because what other Stereo MC’s song would it be?) so I’ve missed all the announcements. About an hour ago, we went backwards, I think because of rain or flooding up ahead? It’s still better than the bus.
In true Amtrak fashion, I had Snyder’s Sourdough Pretzel Nuggets and a Share Size bag of Peanut M & M’s for dinner. You’ve gotta love travel and thank you, Hudson News.
I received an email about my upcoming seven mile race in Central Park next Sunday. I think I may be getting a little over confident in my running. I’m not training for these things as deliberately as I should. I mean, I’m fine. I run five miles a few times a week, sometimes six, so, I can complete a seven mile race. But last night’s 5K killed me and July 4th’s humid 10K was really rough for the second half. Hopefully next Sunday’s weather will cooperate.
We’re still inching along. The moon looks pretty outside the window. We’ll make it to DC eventually.
UPDATE: We are stopped because the engineer can’t work more than twelve hours. They’re going to get a new engineer to take us to DC. People are pissed.
